artist's comments: I created this series for Jean Coutu's 2004 Christmas in-store campaign. After presenting them with thumbnail sketches of various ideas, they chose these three.
I knew they would be used in various sizes, and that they would appear in all kinds of situations. I created strong black lines to hold the bold colours. I used a scratchboard technique (see nic's packaging project here) so I could get the strong lines I needed as well as some of the finer details at the same time. The colouring was done using photoshop.
They appeared on posters, price cards, base wraps, shelf cards, flyers, danglers and bags. Printed in litho and silkscreen and sizes ranging from 2 inches to 24 inches, these images proved to be quite versatile.
