artist's comments:
Harrowsmith Country Life Magazine regularly publishes articles featuring unique homes such as these. I'm often asked to do a complete rendering based on the architect’s plans of certain homes and buildings. I’ve always loved architecture so it’s a real treat for me to work on these projects. My experience with perspective drawing in perspective really makes these projects a real breeze for me.
To start this type of project, I do a complete review of the architect’s blueprints and develop a point of view, which the reader can use to get the best sense of all of the home’s features in one image. It usually ends up in an extreme perspective drawing of the house, with an exploded view, allowing the reader a good view into the special features of these deluxe homes.
The pencil illustrations are then scanned and give what the art director likes to call ‘that blueprint feel’. I do this in the computer using a variety of customized filters and textures that I’ve developed.
I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of taking something that architects understand and rendering it so regular folks can see what they see.
