artist's comments:
The art director had the idea to re-create what the pyramid architects would have been working on when creating the plans for the pyramids. As there was no real documentation regarding this, we used some old drawings found on-line. The props were created by one of Oliver's other artists (Yvan Meunier). The final illustration was transferred onto real parchment.
When lighting this magazine ad, I wanted to capture the natural lighting effect that would have been used at the time so I used candles to light the shot and transparencies to shoot it (this kept the shadows much more moody than if it had been shot digitally.).
