artist's comments: I happened upon the Toxa offices by chance (publishers of Urbania Magazine) and decided to stop in to show my work. It was fate that brought me there, as this was the issue that was covering a very specific subject matter that I enjoy exploring. They wanted to do a pull-out poster as well as many other artworks around the central theme of a Red Light district in Montreal which would be based on St Helene’s island.
The concept was to explore how the existing architecture of the Montreal Casino as well as the Grad Prix racetrack and the amusement park could all be combined into some form of a Disney Land park celebrating sex and decadence. The largess of this type of project captivated my and I started exploring ways that would all fit together visually.
I felt like an architect with carte blanche on creativity and budget. Something we’ve heard rumors of from the good old days of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
The final works were all to be monochromatic, and were printed with red metallic ink. The results were stunning. |
