Drawing women helps me to exorcise my permanent obsession for them. J.S. (aka Lipstik)
- lipstik
I started my artistic career creating hand drawings until the age of 20. I also explored photography and painting. Once I got my hands on a computer I really started to explore all of the possibilities that digital art can create. In 2000, after studying the arts in France (both fine arts and visual communications) I came to Montreal to live. I worked for several well placed fashion companies as well as creating posters promoting local DJ’s and talent/music venues. During this period I explored with graphic possibilities. This is when I started Lipstik Design, a Graphics Lab, a very experimental venture. I launched a series of expositions entitled Lipstik Propaganda, which featured graphics, video installations as well as sculptures. The main theme of the expo was Junk, aesthetics and Sex Shops. During this period I also worked a lot on my musical direction as well. My first illustrations appeared in small grassroots magazines such as Motel, Urbania and RAD. Currently, I am orienting my art towards a more commercial approach, while maintaining a touch of the underground aspect of what I do. I am very inspired by artists such as Liberatore (Ranxerox), Art Nouveau and the graphics movement of the 70’s and 80’s. I also enjoy Comic Book Style art, Sci-Fi movie posters and vinyl covers.
